Umrah Package

Umrah aka Hajj-e-Sagheer (which is the Arabic for smaller Hajj) is one of the spiritual journeys a Muslim can take for perfecting his deen after Hajj. Performing Umrah is relatively much easier than performing Hajj for several reasons. The most important of them being that Umrah is much shorter and can in fact be completed in just a few hours whereas hajj is a matter of days! Another reason being that Umrah can be performed during ANY time of the year whereas Hajj can only performed during a fixed time every year. If you miss that window for Hajj, then you would have to wait for next year!

Umrah is indeed a very pious act. It is composed of three major acts also known as ‘arkaans’. First one is Tawaaf. Tawaaf involves circling Holy Kaa’ba seven times in anti-clockwise directions. Then comes Saai’. Saai’ is moving between the hills of Safaa’ and Marwaa’. Although all the arkaan of Umrah are performed for the pleasure of Allah and Allah alone. However the history behind the specific act of Saai’ is that it is done in the rememberance of the hardships Haajar, wife of Ibrahim (as), had to endure for her son Ismail (as) when they were left alone in Makkah at the command of Allah. Final rukn of Umrah is called Halq. It involves cutting of the hear or shaving the head completely. Shaving the head is prefereable for men whereas for women only cutting of few hair is allowed. Ihram has to be worn while performing all of the acts. Ihram must be worn from the point of Meeqat for Umrah to be valid!

Common Hajj & Umrah Questions

Hajj with Haram Money
We must be very careful with what our source of income has been before we go to Hajj. Unfortunately these days the difference between halal and haram is very thin. On top of that to complicate matters further, most ordinary Muslims don’t bother learning about their deen at all which results in further wrongdoings. “Allaah is Good and only accepts that which is good.” Narrated by Muslim, 1015. There is a fear that if your source of income is haram your hajj will be wasted and not acceptable to Allah! Most Ulemas have mentioned in their books and fatawas that the one whose money is haram will not have even their salah & zakat being acceptable to Allah let alone Hajj. A number of the scholars indicated that Hajj in this case is not acceptable, such as al-Ghazaali, al-Qaraafi, al-Qurtubi and al-Nawawi.

So it would be advisable for all servants of Allah that when they make intention of Hajj, they must make sure that the money they are going to spend on this holy journey of Hajj has been attained through halal means. If they find this is not the case then most scholars recommend waiting until they have saved enough halal money to perform hajj. Repentence must also be made for any haram money as it can be a source of very harsh punishments on the day of judgement! May Allah guide us all and enable us to earn halal income and accept our Hajj and Umrah.

Hajj vs Marriage
Although mostly married couples go on Hajj from UK, yet this is a very common question that gets asked a lot as whether a young man who has saved up some money; should he spend that money to get married first or go on a hajj?

First of all we must know that both hajj and getting married are obligatory however what one should do in such a situation really varies from one scenario to other. Say for example you are a person for whom getting married is important and you feel like you would commit a sin if you don’t do so then it becomes obligatory on you to get married asap and it takes priority over hajj. However if you are young and can wait for a year or more, then hajj takes preference over getting married.

Hajj in case of Debt
Debt generally has no effect on the validity of Hajj. However one of the conditions of Hajj being obligatory is that one should be able to do it, which includes being financially able. In the light of this most scholars have defined the situation of people owing debt into two groups. One who have to pay back their debt soon and going to hajj would prevent them from being debt free, then it is advisable for that person to not go for hajj since he is not satisfying the condition of being able to do hajj. However for debts that are long term and don’t have to be paid back urgently, then then it is permissible for him to go, and his Hajj may be a means of bringing him goodness so that he will be able to pay off his debts.
